KRS on Hip Hop, Generation X, Freedom, the Struggle

And now for something different. KRS (‘Knowledge Reigns Supreme over nearly everyOne‘) gives an insightful lecture on the history of hip hop at Temple University. He charts the rise of oppressed African-American culture in the face of assaults by the US state.
Part I

Part II

About 15 minutes into Part I KRS talks about MLK’s philosophy:

He taught that in the face of hypocrisy of lawless law makers, when the people who make the laws are breaking them in front of you, your highest weapon is to stand in the law and by showing them the mirror image of their own hypocrisy you bring about justice. To do that you have to let the dog bite you. You got to stand there when they are shooting the water because your purpose for standing there is that this is a hypocrisy to your entire way of life. If I don’t stand there the hypocrisy will not be heard; it will not be seen. If I don’t march nobody will know that there is hypocrisy. Stand up in the face of hypocrisy with justice. Don’t look for it be it. Don’t break it uphold it beyond the criminals that are coming after you.

Must See!
