Western governments are being asked by Kenya’s business community not to suspend aid to Kenya. The editorial in Kenya’s Business Daily disagrees with the position being taken by UK elite, aired notably in the Financial Times, that aid should be suspended to Kenya should Kibaki’s government refuse to recognise that it is illegitimate.
Kenya is on the edge and at this time the nation state requires just a tap to push it into political, social and economic abyss. It requires a similar tap, however belated, to return back on the track of building a prosperous nation.
Business Daily believes the suspension of aid would be a crude tool to punish a few individuals at this point. Instead Western governments are urged not to take positions and dialogue and moderation are called for.
